Pierre Richard Named Chair of Public Health Ontario’s Board of Directors
Toronto, ON, July 29, 2014 – Ottawa lawyer Pierre Richard has been elected as the chair of Public Health Ontario’s Board of Directors effective July 1.
Mr. Richard, retired as Senior Partner and Counsel with Lang Michener, brings more than three decades of experience in health, post-secondary education and electricity generation and distribution.
“I am delighted to assume this responsibility with Public Health Ontario,” said Mr. Richard. “Primary care is an essential component of our health care system, and PHO delivers. We work closely with our partners in government, public health and health care, providing scientific and technical advice and support to protect, promote and improve the health of Ontarians. Since we started operations in 2008, PHO has driven significant improvements in Ontario’s infection prevention and control practices, surveillance and epidemiology, integrated data and information systems, communications and emergency preparedness. It’s an exciting time for public health in Ontario, and I look forward to working with our partners across the province and locally, including Dr. Israel Levy at Ottawa Public Health.”
Mr. Richard has been a member of PHO’s Board for the past five years. An active member of the Ottawa business community, he has served on a number of boards including the Ottawa General Hospital, Hydro Ottawa Holdings, La Cité Collégiale, the Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario (now Colleges Ontario), the National Capital Commission and the Ottawa Congress Centre, the RCMP and the College Compensation and Appointments Council (Ontario).
