Antimicrobial Stewardship – Moving Knowledge to Action
Antimicrobial stewardship is an important patient safety initiative for reducing the unintended consequences of inappropriate antimicrobial drug use, including toxicity, development of resistance, and selection for Clostridium difficile.
As of 2014, in accordance with Accreditation Canada's required organizational practices (ROP), having a program for antimicrobial stewardship applies to organizations providing the following services: inpatient acute care, inpatient cancer, inpatient rehabilitation, and complex continuing care.
Public Health Ontario (PHO) is offering ASP workshops to provide support to organizations in developing, growing, or sustaining their ASP efforts. Each workshop will feature:
- ASP champions from local community hospitals to share their experiences
- Speakers from institutions with successful ASPs, key ASP partner organizations, and PHO ASP experts
- Tools and techniques to customize your program
- An open forum for discussion
The learning outcomes of these workshops are:
- To increase knowledge and skills around ASP development and interventions
- Develop an understanding on different methods for measuring an ASP
- Provide an overview on key partnerships and communication strategies for building a successful ASP
Details included on agenda
The workshops are geared towards healthcare practitioners and senior leadership in the community hospital settings; however we welcome any participants with an interest in ASP.
