Blood, clotted - vacutainer tubes (SST)
To order Collection Kits or other PHOL Supplies complete the Requisition for Containers and Supplies. The form should be faxed to Public Health Ontario Laboratory, Toronto at 416-235-5753 or your local PHOL.
5.0 ml blood or 1.0 ml serum
Complete all relevant fields of the General Test Requisition Form.
Detailed instructions for ordering Hepatitis A testing are available to assist you with completing the “Hepatitis Serology boxes” in section 3 of the General Test Requisition.
Haemolysed, icteric, lipemic or microbially contaminated sera or plasma are not recommended for testing.
Centrifuge if using SST. Place specimen in biohazard bag and seal. Specimens should be stored at 2-8°C following collection and shipped to PHOL on ice packs.

Hepatitis A - Serology testing is performed on the Architect analyzer. The Hepatitis A IgM and Hepatitis A IgG assays are a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) for the qualitative detection of IgG antibody and IgM antibody to Hepatitis A virus in human serum. Positive Hepatitis A IgM results are reported to the Medical Officer of Health as per Reportable Diseases Regulation.
Hepatitis A – Serology testing is performed daily Monday to Friday.TAT is up to 3 days.
Results are reported to the ordering physician or health care provider as indicated on the requisition.
