Water Testing: Know who to contact

 Public Health Ontario provides testing for E. coli and total coliforms for private drinking water system owners. For all other environmental testing, including testing for chemical contaminants, please consult with your local public health unit.

Public Health Units

 

If you:

  • suspect that surface water or human or animal waste has entered your well
  • need a drinking water sample collection kit to test for bacterial contamination or
  • have questions about the result of your drinking water test
  • have questions about other environmental testing, including testing for chemical contaminants.

  • are concerned about chemicals in your well, such as sulphur or nitrates

Licensed Well Contractor

 

If you: 

  • are concerned your well is improperly constructed or needs upgrading or maintenance 
Contact the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change's Directory of Licensed Well Contractors or Search for Water Well Drilling and Services in your local Yellow Pages
