Environmental and Occupational Health

Environmental health addresses the assessment and control of the physical, chemical, biological, social and behavioural factors in the environment that influence health and disease occurrence. Occupational health deals with evidence-based strategies that health and safety practitioners can use in protecting health care workers.

PHO’s Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) team applies knowledge and skills from multiple disciplines to generate technical and scientific information and advice to Ontario’s health care system, government ministries, and educational institutions. We support public health practice through:

  • scientific and technical advice and support
  • research and surveillance
  • instrument loan and environmental monitoring
  • develop, disseminate and advance public health knowledge
  • education and professional development
  • inform policy development
  • field support
