This presentation will provide overview of the “Annual Report on Vaccine Safety in Ontario, 2014” and public health surveillance of adverse events following immunization (AEFIs), which is a cornerstone of the vaccine safety system in Canada.

The “Annual Report on Vaccine Safety in Ontario, 2014”  is the third comprehensive annual assessment of vaccine safety in Ontario. Building upon the previous two reports the purpose of this report is to provide relevant and timely information about the safety of vaccines administered in the province, support health care professional communication and build confidence in providers and the public in immunization.

Presenters: Shelley Deeks and Tara Harris

Shelley Deeks is currently the Medical Director of Immunization and Vaccine Preventable Diseases at Public Health Ontario (PHO), an Associate Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, and a member of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI).

Tara is a Nurse Consultant with the Immunization and Vaccine Preventable Diseases team at PHO. She has a Master of Health Science (Community Health and Epidemiology) from the University of Toronto.  Prior joining PHO she was a Nurse Epidemiologist with the Public Health Agency of Canada working in VPD surveillance and supporting NACI.

Public Health Ontario Grand Rounds are approved for continuing medical education from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons.

PHO Grand Rounds are also approved by Council of Professional Experience for professional development hours (PDHs) for members of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
