​Lung Tissue/Biopsy/autopsy

Container/Kit:

​Sterile container

Collection information:

​To order Collection Kits or other PHOL Supplies complete the Requisition for Containers and Supplies. The form should be faxed to Public Health Ontario Laboratory, Toronto at 416-235-5753 or your local PHOL.

Minimum volume required:

​1.0 grams

Requisition:

​Complete all fields of the General Test Requisition Form.  Ensure the following fields are completed if diagnostic testing is requested:

• Symptoms
• Travel History
• Hospitalization
• Clinical History

Limitation:

​None

SPECIMEN HANDLING
Preparation prior to transport:

​Place specimen in biohazard bag and seal. Specimens should be stored at 2-8°C following collection and shipped to PHOL on ice packs.
If transport of specimen to testing laboratory will be delayed more than 72 hours specimens should be frozen and shipped on dry ice.

TEST INFORMATION

​MRSA Lung Tissue specimen nucleic acids are tested using a conventional multiplex polymerase chain reaction (M-PCR) for the identification of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and only upon request PVL (Panton Valentine Leukocidin) positive MRSA strains.

TESTING FREQUENCY AND TURNAROUND TIME (TAT)

​The MRSA – Lung Tissue – Multiplex PCR test is performed as needed Monday to Friday

The TAT is up to 3 days, upon receipt of specimen.

REPORTING

​Results are reported to the ordering physician or health care provider as indicated on the requisition.
