PHO Grand Rounds: What’s New This Year: Highlights from the 2018 Ontario Vaccine Safety Report
Public Health Ontario (PHO) has produced the Annual Report on Vaccine Safety since 2013 to facilitate ongoing assessment of adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) and to support communication about vaccine safety in Ontario. This session provides an overview of highlights from the 2018 report on vaccine safety surveillance in Ontario, with a focus on new analyses. It further describes enhancements to the interactive vaccine safety surveillance tool, such as the provision of more Public Health Unit (PHU) level data, in addition to introducing a new vaccine safety resource at PHO.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the process and importance of vaccine safety surveillance in Ontario
- Explain the approach that PHO takes when collaborating with PHUs in the evaluation of vaccine safety products
- Summarize adverse events reported in Ontario following the administration of vaccines in 2018
- Review new and enhanced vaccine safety resources currently available at PHO
