Celebrating Pride Month 2025: Honouring History, Embracing Inclusion, and Supporting Health Equity
Announcements
2 June 2025
Each June, communities across Ontario, and Canada, join together to recognize Pride Month, which is a time to celebrate 2SLGBTQI+ communities, honour their histories, and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, equity, and public health for all.
This month also kicks off Pride Season which refers to the wide range of Pride events that take place over the summer (June to September) when 2SLGBTQI+ communities and allies come together to spotlight the resilience, celebrate the talent, and recognize the contributions of 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
A Brief History of Pride
Pride Month began with the Stonewall Riots of June 1969, which was a pivotal moment in the fight for 2SLGBTQI+ rights. In Canada, the first Pride events emerged in the 1970s, with Toronto’s inaugural Pride celebration taking place in 1981. Since then, Pride has evolved from grassroots resistance to a global movement for justice, visibility, and equity.
