PHO Rounds: Let’s Talk About Gonorrhea: A Case-based Clinical Overview
Gonorrhea is a bacterial sexually transmitted infection. It is the second-most reported notifiable disease in Canada, and reported rates have increased rapidly in the past decade. Appropriate and timely detection and management of gonorrhea can prevent complications and further spread. This PHO Rounds uses an interactive, case-based format to review recently updated Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) recommendations for gonorrhea screening and treatment, including guidance about when to collect specimens for gonorrhea culture and the optimal timing of test of cure. The presentation also highlights resources for health care professionals from the PHAC.
Intended audience: Public health practitioners, clinicians, community health workers and researchers
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recall, refer to and implement updated national screening recommendations for chlamydia and gonorrhea in their practice.
- Recall, refer to and implement interim national recommendations for the preferred treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea infections in their practice.
- Locate and use the PHAC’s sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI) resources for healthcare professionals.
