PHO Rounds: Pediatric Nutrition and Feeding Guidelines
This PHO Rounds introduces the Pediatric Nutrition Guidelines for Health Professionals: Birth to Six Years (2025 Edition). This guideline was developed by Ontario Dietitians in Public Health, and is a practical, evidence-based tool to support optimal nutrition and feeding best practices. The guidelines incorporate milestones, which outline key developmental points in feeding; evidence-based recommendations to guide nutrition and feeding practices; and red flags, which identify concerns that may require further assessment, intervention, or referral.
Health professionals across clinical and public health settings will gain an understanding of the guidelines’ scope, purpose, and comprehensive content. Practical examples will illustrate how the guidelines can be applied in everyday practice to promote healthy growth and development in young children.
