PHO Webinar: Without Healthy Nurses, There is No Health Care System
The health and well-being of nurses and other health care providers are under stress. Global and more local shocks - including ongoing austerity in healthcare systems, rising social and economic inequities that increasingly limit access to social determinants of health, and the replacement of human-centred values in health care with technological imperatives - have collectively led to rising rates of stress on the nursing workforce. This presentation will critically examine what we mean by “nurse well-being” in this context and offer trauma- and violence-informed strategies to mitigate these threats and build on nursing and organizational strengths to protect and improve safety and well-being for staff and clients.
Intended Audience:
Public health nurses, supervisors, managers, family visitors from Ontario’s Healthy Babies Healthy Children, Nurse-Family Partnership, and Healthy Growth and Development programs. Health care professionals working with pregnant individuals/women or families may also be interested in attending.
By the end of this event, participants will be able to:
- Explain how different factors in the work and workplace may affect nurse well-being.
- Describe how trauma- and violence-informed strategies can support prevention of and response to potential harms and build protective factors to strengthen nurse well-being.
- Reflect on nursing and organizational strengths to support staff and client well-being.
