This PHO Rounds is the second session of a two-part series on the upcoming 2026–27 respiratory season. The presenters will provide an overview of key information and advice for influenza, COVID-19 and RSV immunization for this period.

The Rounds will review the immunization products available this fall in Ontario, summarize the evidence supporting their use, and highlight new recommendations and changes to the immunization landscape for the 2026–27 respiratory season. The presentations will be followed by a panel that will include all presenters and Dr. Daniel Warshafsky, Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, to answer questions from participants.

Intended audience:

 Medical Officers of Health (MOHs), Associate Medical Officers of Health (AMOHs), public health professionals working in communicable disease control and/or immunization, primary healthcare providers, healthcare staff in hospitals, public health clinicians, public health staff working in acute care, long-term care and congregate living settings, public health unit staff and epidemiologists.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Describe the immunization products available in Ontario for influenza, COVID-19, and RSV for the 2026–27 respiratory season.
• Summarize NACI’s recommendations and provincial guidance for Ontario’s influenza, COVID-19, and RSV immunization programs for the 2026–27 respiratory season.
• Identify resources to support immunizers in their delivery of Ontario’s influenza, COVID-19, and RSV immunization programs during the 2026–27 respiratory season.

Dr. Reed Morrison, MD, MPH, MHA, CCFP, FRCPC, is a Public Health Physician in Communicable Disease Control at Public Health Ontario working with the Immunization and Vaccine-Preventable Diseases team. He is an Assistant Professor at NOSM University.

Dr. Richard Mather, MD, MSc., CCFP, FRCPC, is a Public Health Physician in Communicable Disease Control at Public Health Ontario. He is an Assistant Professor (Adjunct) at Queen’s University in the Department of Family Medicine and has an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Daniel Warshafsky, MD, MPH, CCFP (SEM), Dip Sport Med, FRCPC, is an Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health and oversees the immunization portfolio in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health at Ontario’s Ministry of Health. He is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa.

College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) Affiliate Members may count RCPSC credits toward their Mainpro+ credit requirements. All other CFPC members may claim up to 50 Certified credits per cycle for participation in RCPSC MOC Section 1 accredited activities.

PHO Grand Rounds are also approved by the Council of Professional Experience for professional development hours (PDHs) for members of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
