Substance Use and Harms Tool

The Substance Use and Harms Tool provides comprehensive epidemiological information on substance use and harms data in Ontario. Users can explore data related to emergency department (ED) visits, hospitalizations and deaths, as well as indicators related to commercial tobacco, cannabis, vaping, nicotine pouch use and harm reduction, including naloxone doses and needle and foil distribution. Results can be viewed by public health unit, age, sex, and in some cases, drug type.

What’s New (as of August 17, 2026):

• New data on:
  • Tobacco-related indicators, including exposure to second-hand smoke
  • Cannabis-related indicators, including use patterns among adults and youth, and ED visits and hospitalizations due to cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome
  • Vaping-related indicators, including use, exposure, quit attempts and intentions to quit among adults and youth
  • Nicotine pouch use among youth
• Updated data on opioid, stimulant, benzodiazepine, and alcohol-related harms, including ED visits, hospital stays and deaths.
