
Ontario Universal Typing of Tuberculosis by Whole Genome Sequencing (OUT-TB by WGS)
OUT-TB supports tuberculosis (TB) case management, investigation, and surveillance activities for public health units. This enhanced tool integrates whole genome sequencing (WGS) data for more precise identification of genetic links between cases and offers interactive, customizable visualizations to streamline analysis. With data filtering and weekly updates, OUT-TB provides timely insights to help public health units identify and monitor related cases of TB with greater accuracy.
What’s New – Effective June 12, 2025
The updated OUT-TB offers a more secure, modern, and interactive platform for data analysis.
Key enhancements include:
- Integration of whole genome sequencing (WGS) for improved accuracy in identifying genetic links between cases.
- Improved display and organization.
- Data is updated weekly to provide more timely information.
- Alignment with the 8th edition of the Canadian TB Standards for consistency with current guidelines.
- Users can request official WGS reports through PHO’s Incident and Outbreak Response Team (IORT).
Access Requirements
Access to OUT-TB is limited to authorized public health professionals who work in TB-control programs, have access to the iPHIS TB module, and are registered users on our website. If you meet these requirements, please contact lab.data@oahpp.ca to request access.
