Substance Use and Harms Tool

The Substance Use and Harms Tool provides comprehensive epidemiological information on substance use and harms data in Ontario. It enables users to explore data including emergency department (ED) visits, hospitalizations and deaths. Results can be viewed by public health unit, age, sex, and in some cases, drug type.

The Substance Use and Harms Tool will be updated quarterly.

What’s New (as of July 25, 2025):

  • New data on:
    • ED visits and hospital stays related to stimulant-, benzodiazepine- and alcohol-related poisonings.
    • Distribution of harm reduction supplies, including naloxone kits, needles and foils
    • Alcohol-attributable hospitalizations and deaths due to alcohol toxicity

Updated data on opioid-related harms, including ED visits, hospital stays and deaths.
