Carbapenemase Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE)

Enterobacteriaceae that are resistant to carbapenem antimicrobials through the production of carbapenemase are known as carbapenamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE). Only a few last line antibiotics are active against CPE; however, these are often highly toxic with unproven efficacy.
