PHO Rounds: The SickKids Immunization InfoLine

The SickKids Immunization InfoLine is a by-appointment phone service that offers a safe, judgment-free space for open conversations about vaccines. Relaunched in Fall 2024, following the team's experience with COVID-19 vaccination efforts, this consultation service now provides expert guidance on all immunizations for children, youth, and individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to conceive. The service is accessible in multiple languages through over-the-phone interpretation. This PHO Rounds session will review the development and implementation of the InfoLine, provide an overview of the calls received to date—including call volume and common inquiries—and share key insights gained from the experience.

Intended audience: MOHs/AMOHs, public health practitioners, physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine the process behind the creation of a phone-based, nurse-led immunization consultation service.
  2. Describe the usage trend of the SickKids Immunization InfoLine in relationship to trend of vaccine-preventable diseases.
  3. Discuss key challenges related with vaccine access and confidence that have been encountered at the InfoLine.
  4. Identify strategies to increase vaccine access and acceptance around key pediatric immunizations.
