PHO Rounds: Enhancing Collective Efficacy: Practical Considerations for Public Health Agencies

Collective efficacy is vitally relevant to public health agencies’ effective delivery of population health services. This practice-oriented presentation defines the concept of collective efficacy, characterizes its relevance to public health organizations, and provides evidence-informed strategies for enhancing collective efficacy in public health institutions.

Intended audience: Public health practitioners, public health decision-makers, researchers and emergency management professionals.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Define the concept of collective efficacy.
  2. Describe the practical relevance of collective efficacy to public health agencies.
  3. Describe an example of a public health scenario in which collective efficacy can benefit public health organizational functioning.
  4. Describe strategies for enhancing collective efficacy in public health agencies.

Presenter(s): Dr. Daniel Barnett

Dr. Daniel Barnett, MD, MPH, is a Professor of Environmental Health and Engineering at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he has joint appointments in the Department of Health Policy and Management; and the Department of Health, Behavior and Society. Dr. Barnett’s applied research and practice interests focus on public health systems’ functioning, including in emergencies and disasters.

Public Health Ontario Rounds are a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). In order to receive written documentation for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits, please check “Yes” beside the question “Do you require CME credits?” on the registration form.

College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) Affiliate Members may count RCPSC credits toward their Mainpro+ credit requirements. All other CFPC members may claim up to 50 Certified credits per cycle for participation in RCPSC MOC Section 1 accredited activities.

PHO Rounds are also approved by the Council of Professional Experience for professional development hours (PDHs) for members of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
