Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is caused by a virus found in some rodents, primarily deer mice. A person may become infected with the virus through direct or indirect contact with the saliva, urine or droppings of an infected rodent. Infection may result in severe respiratory distress and hypotension. To date, no human cases of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome have been reported in Ontario.
