PHO Webinar: Tungasuvvingat Inuit Presents: An Introduction to Inuit Health & Wellbeing, Strengths and Realities
Introductory session about Inuit Health & Wellbeing, Strengths and Realities. Learn how to support Inuit within the healthcare system through shared decision making, cultural awareness, and general understanding of history, intergenerational trauma, and societal factors impacting the wellness of Inuit.
Intended Audience:
This event is intended for public health staff and professionals, including those working within public health units and related organizations.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate increased awareness of Inuit history and contemporary realities that impact health and wellbeing.
- Recognize barriers Inuit may face when accessing healthcare services.
- Identify practical approaches to providing culturally safe and relationship-based care.
Presenter(s): Sandra Thibaudeau
Sandra Thibaudeau is an Inuk born and raised in Iqaluit, Nunavut. She completed both years of the Inuit Studies program at Nunavut Sivuniksavut in 2017 and 2018, where she strengthened her knowledge of Inuit history, governance, and contemporary Inuit realities.
Sandra has worked with Tungasuvvingat Inuit since 2019 and currently serves as the Education and Training Coordinator with the Kamatsiarniq Program. Through her work, she supports Inuit-led education, cultural awareness, and training rooted in Inuit values and lived experience. Sandra is passionate about sharing Inuit culture, history, and perspectives to support culturally safe and informed services for Inuit and to foster meaningful understanding across systems and communities.
Outside of work, Sandra enjoys beading and creating jewelry using traditional materials such as fox fur and sealskin.
